Quite a busy weekend! The Halau Paina on Friday was terrific, with such gracious and generous partners and inspiring student stories. Kamuela Enos, Community Resource Development Director at MA`O Farms and Obama-appointed member of the White House Commission on Asian & Pacific Islanders, gifted the Halau with an original gouache artwork created by his brother, Solomon. It is truly a treasure.

On Saturday, I joined former Leeward Dean Kathi-Hiyane Brown (now President of Whatcom Community College) and of Mona Kincaid, Assistant Dean of Instruction for Academic Support & University Center Director at Kauai CC at the Kauai Filipino Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards & Installation Banquet. Our presentation on Community Colleges was extremely well received by an attentive audience of more than 300. I was very proud to share our success with Sulong Aral, and the growing partnership with Kauai CC and our AAT Program.

January 24, 2011
The past two weeks have been focused on the 2011 Legislative Session. Along with Mark Lane, I've attended the Opening Session and spent some time with our area legislators. We provided testimony to the Senate Ways & Means Committee and the House Budget & Finance Committee. As the session progresses, we will keep the campus informed.

Endowment News

I'm very pleased to share that, for the first time, the College has established Scholarship Endowments for our students. Two endowments are up and running with a third in the process of being established. When all the paperwork is complete, I will announce the specifics on each generous gift to our College. It brings me great joy to know that my message about the quality work we do here and the incredible impact it has on the live of our students is resonating with the community.

Manny Cabral is the 10th CEO of Leeward Community College. Cabral began his career at Leeward in 1980 as a math instructor. In 1988, he became Division Chair of Math & Sciences. In 2007, he was appointed Interim Chancellor with his permanent appointment to the position approved in May, 2008.
