Our Learning Resource Center and Writing Center employ current and former University of Hawai‘i students as tutors who know – the struggle is real! Learn more about our tutoring resources.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is a welcoming place where you can develop confidence in your own abilities, and strengthen your learning skills through free support for various Leeward CC courses. Our content tutors, fellow students, provide assistance in understanding course concepts, offer guidance on problem-solving and study strategies, and aid in exam preparation.

Success Connection Workshops

Join our free online Success Connection Workshops, open to all UH system students, faculty, and staff! Each semester, we offer a wide variety of workshops covering various disciplines and success skills. Our workshops are presented by UH faculty and staff systemwide.

If you are interested in attending a workshop, please RSVP.

Writing Center

The Writing Center (WC) offers free support for writing-related course assignments, scholarships, and resumes. The WC believes all writers can benefit from having an interested and supportive audience for their ideas, drafts, questions, and plans. Writing Consultants collaborate with students to enhance their writing, reading, and college success skills, guiding them to discover and utilize their strengths.

How do I make an appointment?
  • Step 1: Set up your Penji account online or through the mobile app, using your school email (@hawaii.edu)
  • Step 2: Choose a community
    Join the Writing Center community for writing help or the Learning Resource Center community for content help.
  • Step 3: Connect with Our Services
    Find your courses and click on them. Then select the time that works for your schedule. You will receive an email from Penji with the session information when the appointment is scheduled.
How often can I meet with a writing consultant?

Students can meet with a writing consultant in individual sessions for each of their Leeward CC classes as follows:

  • up to two hours per week;
  • up to one hour per day (scheduling more than one hour on the same day may be permissible if space is available and a minimum of three hours between sessions is scheduled to allow for independent work).
How can I cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, you can do so yourself online via Penji up to twenty-four (24) hours prior to your appointment time.

If needed, you can email us to cancel or reschedule. Please provide at least four (4) hours advance notice if you need to cancel.

If you miss your appointment or cancel it without at least four (4) hours advance notice, your absence will be noted as a “missed” appointment. Students with three “missed” appointments will need to email the Writing Center for help in making future appointments.

How can I get tutoring for a course that may not be provided by LRC/WC tutoring?

If Leeward tutoring is not available for your course, you may receive free tutoring via tutor.com, which is available 24/7 (even weekends). Access tutor.com via the MyUH portal’s search bar, create an account, and connect with a subject-specific tutor. Each student has up to 600 free minutes per semester.
