Ka‘ie‘ie Program

Did you know you can apply for and be enrolled at UH Manoa while completing your Associate degree at Leeward?

Ka‘ie‘ie is a degree pathway program with the University of Hawai’i at Manoa (UHM). It is a dual-admission, dual-enrollment program for students who are pursuing a four-year undergraduate degree but choose to begin their degree at Honolulu CC, Kapi’olani CC, Leeward CC, University of Hawai’i – Maui College, and/or Windward CC.

With Ka‘ie‘ie, you can choose to take classes at one or both institutions and transfer to UH Manoa when the time is right for you, without having to re-apply when you decide to make the transition.

The benefits of Ka‘ie‘ie are:

  • Opportunity to transfer smoothly and graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from UHM
  • Advising and academic planning to help students connect earlier with their major department at UHM
  • Opportunity to take courses at one or both institutions while identifying the best time to transfer
  • When ready to transfer, no further application to UH Manoa is necessary

Application Procedure

Students apply to UHM along with applying to the Ka‘ie‘ie Program. (Please see a Ka‘ie‘ie Counselor http://www.uhcc.hawaii.edu/Ka‘ie‘ie)

Students may apply to Ka‘ie‘ie after completing 12 transferable credits and while currently enrolled in 12 transferable credits, or after previously completing 24 transferable credits. Upon acceptance, Ka‘ie‘ie students will be dual enrolled at both their Community College and UHM.

Ka‘ie‘ie students must remain in the program for one semester before transferring to UHM, however, may take classes at both institutions if they choose to do so.

Even after qualifying for transfer, Ka‘ie‘ie students may choose to remain at their Community College if they are not yet ready to make UHM their home institution.*

Students do not need to apply to UH Manoa, however, they must accept the Auto Admit offer within one month.

Students are eligible while in their final semester of an AA or ASNS degree program or after completing at least 54 credits with a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

If eligible, STAR will send an Auto Admissions Offer to the student’s UH Gmail account.

Students may apply to UHM after completing 12 transferable credits and while currently enrolled in 12 transferable credits, or after previously completing 24 transferable credits.

Notes: *To remain a Ka‘ie‘ie Student you must:

    • Register for at least (1) credit at your participating UH system home campus each semester
    • Maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and remain in good academic standing at both your participating UH system campus and UHM.

Students who earned a bachelor’s degree or are on probation, suspension, or dismissal at UHM or UH system campus are not eligible for auto admit until they are in good standing.

International & students applying to a college with an earlier deadline should apply through traditional process then accept auto-admit to get their application fee reimbursed.

International & students applying to a college with an earlier deadline should meet the earlier deadline.

Eligible students will then be dual-enrolled in both their Community College and UH Manoa.
