Television Production

Develop skills in lighting, audio, location and studio production, directing, editing, camera operation, and television graphics. This career-oriented program is designed for students seeking job-entry skills, retraining or upgrading in professional digital cinematography, with emphasis on all aspects of video production. The program is demanding, condensed, academically challenging, and requires substantial time commitments. Courses and extensive hands-on labs include the use of state-of-the-art digital video technology and equipment, emphasizing video equipment operation, storytelling, application and mastery of equipment, and aesthetics.

Leeward’s TV PRO program is uniquely co-designed by industry leaders and university educators to give you the knowledge skills necessary to enter the TV production profession. Our courses, taught by working professionals and subject specialists, train you for entry-level positions in broadcast and non-broadcast operations in the television production field.

Program Details

Associate in Science in Television Production (63 credits) prepares you with skills, retraining, or upgrading in professional digital cinematography, with emphasis on all aspects of video production. While this program assumes no prior knowledge of television production, be advised that this program is demanding, condensed, rigorous, academically challenging, and requires substantial time commitments. Courses and extensive hands-on labs include the use of state-of-the-art digital video technology and equipment to teach film techniques and television production.Requirements for the Associate in Science Degree

Certificate of Achievement, Television Production (24 credits) will provide you with knowledge and job-entry skills, retraining, or upgrading in professional digital cinematography, with emphasis on all aspects of video production. The Certificate of Achievement can provide a supplemental education in television production to existing careers or education in communications, media management, and digital media.Requirements for the Certificate of Achievement

Certificate of Competence, Television Production (12 credits) is designed to equip you with basic knowledge and job-entry skills, retraining, or upgrading in professional digital cinematography, with emphasis on all aspects of video production. The Certificate of Competence can provide a fundamental education in television production to supplement existing careers or education in communications, media management, and digital media.Requirements for the Certificate of Competence

Time: The 15 credit Certificate of Completion can be completed in as little as one semester. The 38-credit Certificate of Achievement can be completed in as few as two semesters. The 64 credit Associate In Science Degree can be completed in three or four semesters. The program requires significant time commitments from students, as well as rigorous academic and “hands on” training. Plan to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week in class and labs, and at least 8 to 12 hours of study time per week.

Costs: In addition to Leeward’s tuition and fees, textbooks can run as high as $480 for this program. Personal earphones, tools, supplies, and recording media may also be required for additional costs of approximately $450.
