October 2012 Update

eWaste Disposal Days:  in cooperation with the University of Hawaii and Apple Computer, the Pearl City campus will once again be a drop-off site for the Education and Government eWaste Disposal Days.  This event will take place on October 25-27, 2012 and will require that we close parking lot 1-C during the duration of the event.  See attached for more details on eWaste Disposal Days and campus parking lot closures.

Waiawa Mile Fitenss Trail

Waiawa Mile Map

The mile-long trail includes cultural markers with native plantings to enliven your walk. The Trail begins near the newly installed fitness equipment, makai of the Health Science Complex.

The Fitness Trail project is supported by Boy Scout Troupe 49, the Sustainability Committee, Student Government and our Wellness Committee.

Last semester a number of system-wide meetings took place that discussed the design and implementation of “Co-requisite" models of remediation for students who do not place into college level math and/or English.  Our campus was well prepared to meet this challenge as our English and math faculty had been developing such courses for years.

Strategic Plan

The Leeward Community College Strategic Plan is aligned with the University of Hawai'i Community College (UHCC) System and the University of Hawai'i (UH) System Strategic Plans to establish a focus on critical issues affecting the colleges and the State and to set budget priorities.

This unified approach provides a framework for the integration of assessment, planning, and budgeting processes for the College. Stated performance measures with benchmarks and projected targets will provide evidence of the College's progress toward meeting its strategic outcomes.

Convocation Remarks for Fall 2015

During the spring and part of the summer, I served as the acting VCAA while Mike Pecsok was on leave. In addition to taking on the PI role on a number of our campus’ grant activities, day-to-day operations, and system-wide meetings, I was invited to attend the Complete College America “Corequisite at Scale Institute” in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 12.
