Leeward Community College has partnered with local industry to offer the Process Technology Program. Process Technology is one of the newest program offered by Leeward Community College and is the first of its kind in Hawaii.

Program Overview
What is Process Technology (PT)?Process technology is at the heart of industries that involve the production of consumer goods from raw material.
Process technology is essential in the production of gasoline, airplane fuel, gas, plastic soft drink bottles, glass jars and bottles, pharmaceuticals, and even Jelly Bellies! In Hawaii, HECO and AES Hawaii, process oil and coal respectively, to produce electricity; Tesoro and Chevron process oil to produce gasoline.
What do Process Technologists (PT) do?
PT control, monitor and troubleshoot equipment that process raw material into products such as gasoline, electricity and plastics. They analyze, evaluate and communicate about data.
What are the work conditions of a PT?
PT work in an industrial, team-based environment. PT do shift work to staff 24/7,
365 days/year operations. The work requires a high level of commitment in a "high stakes industry."
What are the benefits of working as a PT?
The starting salary is $40,000 and earnings can be as high as $50,000 to $60,000
with overtime. Medical and retirement benefits are excellent in this long-term career.
What courses are required for the program? How long is the program?
In order to shorten the time for students to complete the program and take jobs
in the industry, this program is designed to include credit courses to meet general
education requirements and non-credit instruction to meet the process technology
major requirements. Generally, each term is 12-weeks long with a 1-week break between
each term. It will take 15 months to complete the process technology modules.General Education requirements (2-3 semesters)
