The UH Safe Zone symbol conveys a positive message to the entire University of Hawai‘i community—particularly to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (lgbt) faculty, staff and students. The symbol identifies people, lgbt and otherwise, who are non-judgmental and have access to lgbt resources, should you need them. Safe Zone participants are not trained counselors but may direct you to a trained counselor who is also a Safe Zone participant. When you see this symbol, know that—whatever the attitudes toward lgbt people and their allies on campus—here at least is a “Safe zone” or safe place.
