TI1000 COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE (CDL) PERMIT PREPARATION

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Assess the rules of the road for CMV operators and the penalties for non-compliance with federal rules and laws.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the governing rules of the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Safety Act of 1986 by successfully passing the State of Hawaii CMV permit examination.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency of the basic CMV controls and their functions, including airbrake's, by successfully passing the State of Hawaii CMV permit examination.
  4. Demonstrate a proficient understanding of passenger endorsements, including hazardous materials, tankers, and, double/triple trailers by successfully passing the State of Hawaii CMV permit examination.

TI3000 COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE (CMV) BASIC OPERATION

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the working components of all commercial motor vehicles.
  2. Exercise judgment for controlling direction as a function of speed and space management.
  3. Use correct procedures for driving a commercial motor vehicle, including: starting and stopping the engine; moving the vehicle forward and in reverse; and, basic turning maneuvers.
  4. Handle a commercial motor vehicle in various parking scenarios.
  5. Determine safe driving pathways through effective use of vehicle mirrors, proper use of signaling, and visual awareness of road conditions through observation.

TI4000 COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE (CMV) SAFE OPERATIONS

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Employ principles of operating the commercial motor vehicle safely on multi-lane roads and at higher speeds.
  2. Demonstrate ability to maneuver the commercial motor vehicle on the highway, through merging traffic, and traversing both up hill and down hill grades.
  3. Judge the conditions for preparing to safely stop the commercial motor vehicle from higher speeds; approach corners and turns during higher speed operations; and, obey traffic signals and markings.
  4. Determine the appropriate use of the engine retarder, including when it should be used and when its use would be detrimental.
  5. Develop higher proficiency for controlling direction as a function of speed and space management.
  6. Improved abilities and skill for driving a commercial motor vehicle during ascent and descent of hills; and, judging brake distance and load.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills of driving a commercial motor vehicle in a variety of traffic scenarios and conditions.
