Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the technical processes of working in clay; and hands-on practical knowledge of firing the raku kiln.
  2. Demonstrate cognitive knowledge of the Raku tradition and of the technical aspects of working in the raku process.
  3. Create raku clay works as solutions to technical or visual problems, or as an expression of an idea.
  4. Using raku techniques, including glaze applications and firing process, produce raku artwork.
  5. Critique their own raku artwork and the work of others looking for applied raku techniques.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Assemble the essential equipment used for ikebana sogetsu; and assemble arrangements with consideration to vase elements.
  2. Evaluate the available materials and use them in accordance with defined ikebana sogetsu techniques and construction methods.
  3. Prepare arrangement using design elements that emphasize seasons and/or celebrations.
  4. Create flower arrangements using ikebana sogetsu techniques, including: mathematical principles of Japanese flower arranging; relationships among flowers; and, economical use of flora.
  5. Critique their own ikebana sogetsu display and the displays of others, looking for applied ikebana sogetsu structures and elements.
