MS2000 MSF Basic RiderCourse (Hawaii Edition)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate basic motorcycle operation skills: Inspect, mounting, start/stop engine.
  2. Demonstrate fundamental riding skills: Straight Line, Turning, Shifting, Braking.
  3. Demonstrate street riding skills: Swerving, Maximum braking, Advanced turning, Hand signals.
  4. Determine the proper operation of a motorcycle under normal, special and adverse riding conditions.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Blend various techniques for seeing and being seen in the traffic mix.
  2. Judge proper lane positioning for space cushioning, lane protection, and following distance.
  3. Select an appropriate space cushion to other vehicles in a moving traffic environment to maintain proper motorcycle control and avert collisions.
  4. Develop advanced turning and braking techniques including maximum braking, and controlling skids.
  5. Demonstrate techniques and procedures for carrying passengers and loads, and handling a motorcycle under adverse weather conditions and motorcycle malfunctions.

  2. Coach new motorcyclist in the advancement of riding techniques.
  3. Demonstrate proper classroom and motorcycle training range safety procedures.
  4. Blend teaching and learning techniques to deliver the most efficient and effective classroom activities and range exercises.
  5. Evaluate knowledge and skills developed by students in a Basic RiderCourse and determine that students meet or exceed the minimum standards for completion as set forth by the MSF and Hawaii DOT.
