Financial Aid Office Earns Award

United Student Aid Funds, Inc. (USA Funds) awarded the “Excellence in Financial Education Certificate of Achievement” to Leeward Community College in recognition of its financial literacy education program.

During the past year, Leeward CC was among the colleges and universities posting the largest number of unique student-users and courses completed through USA Funds Life Skills financial education and student success curriculum.

USA Funds® Life Skills® is a Web-based financial literacy and student success program that teaches students to manage their time and money wisely while they are on campus and after graduation.

“Most of our students have little knowledge of personal finance. Our Financial Aid office offered a variety of activities to improve the financial literacy of our students, from Financial Fitness Fairs  to one-on-one sessions,” states Manny  Cabral, Leeward CC Chancellor. “I’m very proud of the tireless efforts of our Financial Aid staff for all the important work they do with our students.”

According to USA Funds, research shows that financial hardship is one of the primary reasons that students leave college before completing their academic programs.
