The new course "Language and Culture in Puerto Rico" (IS197E) is being offered for Spring 2013. This is a hybrid course in Laulima includes a 7-day trip to Puerto Rico during Spring Break (Mar.23-31, 2013).

The total cost of the 3 credit course including the trip (which includes airfare, lodging, 2 meals a day, excursions) is $2633.00.  The requirements are that a student have taken at least SPAN 101 at the college/university level and/or be concurrently enrolled in a SPAN course here at Leeward. 

This trip is also open to faculty -- they would need to register for the course just as the students would (filling out the application forms and registering for the class), but would be able to apply the faculty waiver and choose to audit the course (if they do not need the 3 credits).

We need a minimum of 15 participants and the more that sign up the lower the total cost of the class/trip.

The student/participant needs to do three things immediately:

• Fill out the two registration forms (Vámonos Tours & Leeward CC Study Abroad) available below
• Pay the first two down payments of $600 ($100 + $500) by the deadline of Thursday, December 6th.  (The rest of the balance will by due by Jan. 25th.)
• Email Tara Rojas, tmuramot [at] hawaii [dot] edu, and so that Steve Jacques (jacques [at] hawaii [dot] edu) can register them into the course through Banner.

December 6th is also the date that we will determine if the class/trip will run or not.    If we do not have the 15 person minimum then it will be cancelled and all monies will be returned.  So far we have had more than 40 people sign up who were interested but still need the minimum to officially pay.
