September '17 Update

It's hard to believe, but it will soon be October! I hope your semester is going well. I wanted to provide you with some reminders and ask for your help with a couple of policies.

  1. Reminders
  2. UHCCP 5.211 Statement of Professional Ethics
  3. New Requirement for Posting of Faculty CVs

1. Reminders

Sabbaticals - The sabbatical deadline for requests during the 2018-2019 academic year will be Friday, December 29, 2017. More information will be forthcoming on the application process.

Incomplete Grades - Please note that giving a student an incomplete grade at the end of the semester can have unanticipated consequences on the student's ability to stay registered the following semester for a subsequent course. If the student is earning a D or higher, then it is recommended you give the student the grade. You have the option to change the grade up to two years later for students who want to submit additional course work.

Non-instructional Day (Professional Development Day) - The UH community colleges will continue to set aside the first Friday in March as a non-instructional day for campuses to offer professional development for all faculty and staff. In recent years, this day was used for the Hawaii Strategy Institute and the Hawaii Student Success Institute, but this coming year it will be an event planned by the campus.

March 2, 2018 - Non-instructional Day/Professional Development Day (no classes)
March 28-29, 2018 - Hawaii Student Success Institute (HSSI) at the Hawaii Convention Center

2. UHCCP 5.211 Statement of Professional Ethics

In an effort to ensure we are meeting the requirements of our accreditor, Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Please review UHCCP 5.211 Statement of Professional Ethics (Faculty).

3. New Requirement for Posting of Faculty CVs

The UH system has implemented a revised RP 5.214 and new EP 5.214 regarding Teaching Assignments for Instructional Faculty. These policies indicate that every tenured or tenure-track instructional faculty member must post a current CV that can be accessed from a central point on Leeward's website. In an effort to assist with this requirement, I am collecting the required information via a Google Form. This information will be posted publicly as required by the policy.
