Another Win for Ka Manaʻo

Ka Mana‘o, Leeward's student-produced magazine, placed second in the School Newspaper Excellence category at the 31st annual Pa‘i Awards.

Awards were presented by the Hawai‘i Publishers Association. Judges commented Ka Manaʻo had “excellent design with a broad focus … Not afraid to take on controversial issues.” Ka Leo O Hawai‘i, the student newspaper at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, took first place.

Ka Manaʻo had two editor-in-chiefs in the 2015-16 academic year. Tyla Smith finished her tenure in December 2015 when she received her BA in English from UH Mānoa. Chance Nakazato is the current editor-in-chief. The publication’s adviser is Stanley Lee.

Ka Mana‘o also finished second at the Paʻi Awards in 2015 and won the category in 2014. The Pa‘i Awards recognize the work of the state’s newspapers and publications.
