HPD Training on Campus

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) will be conducting training for its officers on Leeward’s Pearl City campus from Monday – Thursday, October 13-16, 2014 during the hours of 6:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. The training will consist of classroom instruction in the ED building lecture hall, supplemented with emergency incident response exercises in the Diamond Head portable quad of buildings.  Building D, which is being occupied by several campus programs, will not be used for this training.

During the incident response portion of the training on Tuesday and Thursday, October 14 and 16, HPD officers will be conducting drills in clearing unused classrooms and offices in the Diamond Head portables.  At NO time will live ammunition or bullets be used in the exercise!  However “blank” rounds will be used in the training weapons.  HPD officers will also be instructed not to bring their duty-weapons, ammunition, and magazines to the training

Message boards will also be placed around the Diamond Head portables noting that an exercise is in progress.  In addition, HPD officers will be stationed around the quad to act as safety officers and provide notification to faculty, staff, and students that access to the area will be restricted.

For individuals who suffer from combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the campus Veteran’s Center (BS Building, Room 103) will be available to provide a safe zone and offer a range of support services.

This training is being conducted on our campus in order to familiarize HPD officers with our campus environment and ultimately to protect us should the need ever arise.  Mahalo for your full cooperation, support, and patience.
