Scholarships for Native Hawaiian students

Starting February 8 through March 30, 2012, over 40 college and other post-high school scholarships will be available for eligible applicants through Ke Ali'i Pauahi Foundation, a non-profit support organization to Kamehameha Schools.

“Through the generosity of our donors, the Foundation is fortunate to offer financial assistance to Native Hawaiian students across the nation,” said Kalei Stern, executive director at Ke Ali‘i Pauahi Foundation. “The scholarships cover various areas of study including Hawaiian studies and language, business and education.”

Information Session on new AS-NS Science Degree on Feb. 7

On Thursday, November 30, 2011, the UH Board of Regents unanimously approved the establishment of a new provisional degree program: the Associate in Science in Natural Science Degree (ASNS) with a concentration in three areas: Life Science, Physical Science or Engineering. Leeward CC has one of the largest Math & Sciences divisions in the UH Community College system, offering more than 200 sections each semester in a variety of disciplines. It's a perfect match for anyone interested in a science or engineering career.

Scholarships Available to Study Abroad

Ever dream about studying abroad...but then thought it would be too expensive or the time commitment too long? Think again! The University of Hawai'i Community Colleges offers a variety of options to study overseas, from a 10-day homestay to a 3-year program, and most are partially- or fully-funded!

The value of studying abroad cannot be underestimated. In addition to making life-long friends and lasting memories, studying abroad can help you gain foreign language skills and cross-cultural competence, and demonstrate initiative and adaptability, giving you a career advantage!

Grant Support for Leeward students with disabilities interested in STEM

Leeward CC has joined the Pacific Alliance for Supporting Individuals with Disabilities, a National Science Foundation grant supported collaboration under the Center for Disability Studies at UH Manoa. Students in a broadly defined area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math who have a documented disability may be eligible under this program for tutoring, mentoring and/or a cash stipend as well as other supports to enhance their likelihood for success in college studies and entry into employment. At Leeward the automotive and culinary programs as well as more traditional STEM fields may have students eligible to participate.

Online UH System Scholarship Application

The UH System Scholarships are open to students who are admitted as a regular student attending any of the ten campuses of the University of Hawai‘i System. There is a single online UH System Scholarship Application for over forty different scholarships. The deadline to apply for the UH System Scholarships is Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 4:00 pm (HST).

Leeward Soccer Club

The Leeward Soccer Club welcomes all students who are looking for a fun, relaxed way to exercise, have fun, and meet other students. No soccer experience is necessary and students can join at any time. The club meets on Fridays from 2:30 – 4:30pm in the Tuthill Courtyard. Last Fall, Student Services conducted a Student Satisfaction survey.  The attached excel file depicts the quantitative results of this survey conducted with students this fall.  The spreadsheet does not include multiple comments that were shared with members of each unit.

Nainoa Thompson featured in Distinguished Cultural Speaker Series

Master Navigator Nainoa Thompson is featured in the Hālau ‘Ike o Pu‘uloa Distinguished Cultural Speaker Series. Thompson will share his mana‘o (thoughts) about the Polynesian Voyaging Society's (PVS) long envisioned World Wide Voyage, "E Mālama Hōnua" (Care for Earth) and how the Leeward CC ‘ohana can get involved in this history making kuleana.
