Items from the Reference Collection, the Periodcals Collection, certain items in the Video Collection, and certain items in the Hawaiian/Pacific Collection cannot be borrowed, and must be used in the library. Some items have special circulation restrictions: special-funded items might only be borrowable by certain groups; some videos that are part of high-demand sets can only be borrowed one at a time and cannot be renewed.
Renewals – Loans can be renewed, unless a particular item has been recalled or requested by someone else, or if the renewal limit has been reached or special restrictions apply. Renewals can be done at the Circulation Desk, or online by logging in to your account on the Hawaiʻi Voyager system. Library laptop computers, however, can only be renewed by visiting or contacting the Circulation Desk. Renewal loan periods begin at the time of the renewal, or in other words, a 28-day item that is renewed after only 21 days will be then due 28 days after the renewal date. See the main Circulation Services page for more information about renewing items online.
Recalls – Books may be recalled, if needed while checked out. If you need a book that is currently being borrowed by someone else, you can request a recall through the Hawaiʻi Voyager online catalog system, or you can visit the Circulation Desk. If a book that you borrowed is recalled, you will receive an e-mail notification, and you will have two weeks to return the book to the library.
Suspension of borrowing privileges – You will be blocked from borrowing or renewing items if you owe $10.00 or more in fines or fees to the library. This includes fines and fees owed to other UH-system libraries.
