2011

Banned Books Week – September 26-30, 2011
The library will observe Banned Books Week with a display and readings from banned and challenged books, every day at noon.
Library Open House – September 28, 2011, 1 pm - 3 pm
The library invites the campus community to come in and learn about exciting new library services and resources. A presentation will be given by the librarians at 1:15, and will repeat at 2:15.
Reading Spook-tacular – October 31, 2011, noon
Students will be reading scary stories ALOUD! Plus we'll have CANDY!
Library Book Fair – November 3-5, 2011, 9 am - 3 pm
The 7th annual Give the Gift of Reading Book Fair, featuring books and gift items from Scholastic Inc.
SC Workshop: Research Beyond Google – November 8, 2011, 12:00 pm - 12:50 pm, BE-228
Librarian Jue Wang will conduct a workshop on research tools and techniques in room BE-228. Part of the Learning Resource Center's Success Connection Workshop series.
Library Technology Showcase – November 10, 2011, 2:30 pm - 3:20 pm
Check out the latest and greatest technology services offered by the Library. Participants in this session will get to ask questions and get answers on using services with their students.

The Library celebrates Women's History Month in March

Women's History Month Film Series: Heart of the Sea – March 8, 2012, 1:30 p.m.
A look at the too-short life of "Queen of Makaha" Rell Sunn, pioneer surfer and community icon. More about this film.
Women's History Month Film Series: Where the Water Meets the Sky – March 15, 2012, 1:30 p.m.
Through lessons in filmmaking, 23 women in Zambia tell the story of women orphaned by AIDS who challenge their community to change. More about this film.
Women's History Month Film Series: Miss Representation – March 22, 2012, 1:30 p.m.
A look at how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. More about this film.

The Library on Third – Thursday, August 16, 11 am - noon
Leeward CC faculty and staff are invited to discover the many ways the library will support you in and out of the classroom, including library and in-class sessions, online research guides, new title requests, course reserves, and more! Introducing our new iPads for Loan program and activity-based Research Challenge module.

Library Book Fair – Saturday, November 3, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
In conjuntion with the Leeward Discovery Fair, the library's annual Book Fair will be held in the Learning Commons. Featuring books and gift items from Scholastic Inc., as well as $1 used books. Proceeds will be donated to elementary schools in our community.

Geek Day – Saturday, March 16, 9:00 - 3:00
Leeward Community College is presenting Geek Day, a day of free hands-on workshops and demonstrations on a variety of technology topics, open to the general public. Librarians will be giving a presentation on downloading e-books and audio books from the public library, during the 9:30-10:30 am session.
A Source of Light, Constant and Never-Fading – June 6 - August 30
An exhibit on the history of Kalaupapa, by Ka ʻOhana O Kalaupapa. Opening reception on Thursday June 6, at 6:00 pm. More information.
Kalaupapa and Father Damien: 'Here I am, send me' – August 28
Dr. Kalani Brady will share his experiences providing medical care in Kalaupapa and the legacy of this unique place. 1:00 - 2:30 pm. More information.

Hawaii Digital Newspaper Program – Tuesday, February 4, 1:30 pm
A demonstration of the HDNP by project manager Jennifer Beamer. In the library instruction area on the third floor.
Introduction to Ulukau: the Hawaiian Electronic Library – February (Multiple Dates)
A 90-minute research-skills workshop on using the online Hawaiian resource materials at Ulukau. Sessions will be held at the library and at Leeward CC Waiʻanae. Seating is limited – please e-mail the presenter, Keikilani Meyer, at alexism@hawaii.edu, to reserve your seat. More information.

In keeping with the theme "Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment", Hālau ʻIke O Puʻuloa, the Library, and Women's Studies are pleased to host a screening of Keepers of the Flame: Cultural Legacy of Three Hawaiian Women, in the Reference, Research and Reading Room, on the second floor of the Learning Commons building.
