Educational Activities
We have over 30 fun and unique activities to stimulate your mind and body! Test your skills and even get messy while you discover, learn, and explore! Everything you need will be provided – just come and have fun!
Food & Entertainment
Balloon Monsoon
10:30am-1:30pm
Cutoff time for line is 1:15pm
Local Food Vendors
Sama Sama, Hi Cravings, Subway, Lucky Belly, and other local favorites will have food available for sale.
102.7 Da Bomb
10:00am-12:00pm
102.7 Da Bomb’s Phat Joe will be here to provide music and pump up the excitement at our Fair!
Harvey The Magician

Harvey Ouchi, a member of Leewardʻs first graduating class, will amaze keiki with his magic tricks!

Discovery Fair 2023 Activities
Bubblicious Geometry: Make huge bubbles using different shapes.
Colder than Ice!: Submerge balloons and flowers in liquid nitrogen to see the effect.
Discover Plants: Learn to grow your own plant.
Fun with Printmaking: Use a printing press to create your own relief print to take home.
Gyotaku – Fish Printing: Create your own gyotaku masterpiece to take home.
HILUG (Hawaii Lego Users Group): Display of original lego creations and legos for kids to play with.
Hū – Spinning top: Hū is a Hawaiian game played with a spinner made from a kukui nut.
Imagining Communities: Create a mini community using recycled materials.
Intergroup Social Perception (ISP) Lab at UH Mānoa: Learn about your memory, fool your senses, and understand how your brain works.
Korean Culture and Games: Come and experience some traditional Korean games.
Leeward CC Human Resources: Recruiting positions for faculty, APT, civil service, and student employees.
Learning Styles and Brain Games: Trace a pattern of a star while using only a mirror to guide you, and test your reaction time with our perfection shape game.
Leeward Photo Club: Creating kid-friendly photograms using cyanotype processes.
Leeward Theatre: Learn about our newly renovated Theatre.
Lightning Bolt Challange: Race against the clock to remove and install fasteners with a choice of 3 hand tools.
Luck or Probability – what determines the gift that you’ll receive? Roll the dice, learn about probability, and win a gift.
Mad Hatter: Create a fashionable hat from recycled materials.
Math is Fun!: Tricks, games, puzzles based on math concepts.
Mauli Ola – Wellness through Lei Hilo: Learn about the visual art of lei hilo, a twisting style of lei making and the ‘ano or disposition required in the creation of lei. Take home a lei for the wrist made from tī leaf.
Mechanical Advantage: Interact with 5 basic machines that kids get to assemble and explore.
Nā Pā‘ani Hawaiʻi Kahiko: Participants will be able to play in ancient Hawaiian games, traditionally used during the season of Makahiki.
Origami Math: Making Origami and finding math in origami.
PaCoN – You Shall Not Pass: Learn how we can protect our food supply from pests and disease. Play the role of a plant quarantine officer, and see what kinds of pests affect our food.
Phun with Physics: Several hands-on activities that teach you about various physics principles.
Quicksand Goo: Run your hands through a mysterious substance that’s both solid and liquid.
Securing Your Future: The activity will involve a couple cybersecurity activities for kids to take part in.
Self Driving Cars – Kūlia Academy: Would you like to build a self-driving car from scratch? Using a battery, wheels, wires, cables and motors, build a toy self-driving car and test it!
Slime Time: The magic of polymers in a slippery, slimy substance you can play with.
Solving Anatomy Puzzles!: Learn about the human body in order to solve 3D puzzles and make DNA models with pipe cleaners.
Sun Spots: Viewing sunspots using telescopes.
The Amazing Human Body: Learn about your body using anatomic models and the building of a lung model.
Travel Around the World: Take a trip around the world and learn about different places and cultures. Stamp your own personal passport as you go on your journey.
Ulu Leaf Hand Prints: Like ulu leaves, we grow and learn together! Parents and keiki make hand prints symbolic of Pu‘uloa campus and Native Hawaiian culture.
Wheel Throwing Clay: Participants can experience throwing clay on potter’s wheel.
Yoyo Balloon Fishing: Catch a small balloon “fish” floating in a pool with a hook tied at the end of a pole.
Tours of the fossil, mineral, and natural history exhibits.
Zoomin In: Get a closer look at the world around you through our microscopes.
