Start Your Engineering Career at Leeward!
Leeward offers most of the courses required to complete the freshman and sophomore years of the baccalaureate physics and engineering curricula. Our courses are designed to allow a student to transfer with junior standing to the Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, and Physics departments at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Leeward students have also transferred, without loss of credits, to the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of California at Berkeley, and the Mechanical Engineering Department at Washington State University.
We focus on the quality of the learning experience. Lecture sections are small, and laboratory classes are taught by regular faculty. As a result, you get more personal attention than you might receive at a larger school. Leeward offers you an opportunity to complete your first years of engineering education in a small college environment, and some students may find that to be exactly what they need.
If you’re interested in pursuing an engineering degree, you must have completed while in high school
- two years of algebra
- one year of pre-calculus
- one year of chemistry
- one year of physics
All of these courses are also available at Leeward, so if your HS preparation is incomplete, you can spend as much time as necessary finishing them here before beginning the freshman engineering or physics curriculum.
You don’t have to know what branch of engineering you want to study. Many students take the freshman courses in physics and all three engineering curricula to help them decide which area they are most interested in. Since the classes at Leeward are small, the physics and engineering faculty encourages this kind of exploration.
