Accreditation Self Study 2012
Beginning: Coming together | Progress: Working together | Success: Improving together
What is accreditation?
Accreditation is a status granted to an educational institution that has been found to meet or exceed specific standards of quality. Leeward CC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
What are the benefits of accreditation?
- It assures the public that Leeward meets or exceeds specific standards of quality;
- It makes us eligible to participate in Title IV student financial aid programs; and
- It provides us with self and peer review and encourages us to improve
In addition, institutions rely on accreditation in their decisions to recognize transfer credit.
How are we evaluated?
Colleges follow a six-year cycle during which institutional review is continuous, culminating in a comprehensive self study report and an on-site visit by a team of peer evaluators. In this report, we rigorously evaluate how well we meet or exceed the four ACCJC Standards:
(1) institutional mission and effectiveness,
(2) student learning programs and services,
(3) resources, and
(4) leadership and self governance.
Our self evaluation, which will take a standards-based approach, is due in 2012.
Everyone on campus—faculty, staff, administrators, students—is being asked to participate in the work of the self study. Feel free to contact the Self Study co-chairs or Any of the Standard Committee chairs to find out more about the process and how you can get involved.
