Academic Services

“Academic Services provides learning opportunities, resources, and services for students, employees, and our community.”

Academic Services provides quality services that touch every person at Leeward CC, whether you are a student or an employee. The six areas that comprise the Academic Services are The Learning Commons, Disability Services, Educational Media Center, Information Technology Group, Innovation Center for Teaching and Learning, and Theatre.

The faculty, staff, and student workers that comprise Academic Services are service-oriented and work diligently to provide high-quality services to everyone at Leeward CC. We are proud of the role we play in furthering the Leeward CC mission.

Student-Centered Services

Disability Services

The Disability Services Office (DSO) provides services for students with documented disabilities, allowing them to access the instructional programs/materials. DSO collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and the campus community to cultivate a universally designed environment that facilitates the removal of existing barriers for the full inclusion of people with disabilities.

Library

The Library provides quality resources and services including online and print resources, computers and equipment, research assistance and support, and study spaces across two floors of the Learning Commons building.

Tutoring

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) and Writing Center offer free support for Leeward CC content courses and writing assignments. Our peer tutors are fellow students who are also available to help with scholarship essays and college success skills (including Laulima, OER, time management, organization, note-taking, and reading).

Employee-Centered Services

EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CENTER
The Educational Media Center (EMC) facilitates and supports teaching and learning using technology. The EMC is comprised of Audio Visual Services, Copy Center, Educational Technology (instructional design and professional development), and Video Production.

INNOVATION CENTER FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING
The Innovation Center for Teaching and Learning provides a wide variety of programs and activities for professional, institutional, and personal development for faculty, lecturers, and staff.

HELP DESK AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GROUP
The Information Technology Group (ITG) manages and maintains all computer, server, and network operations for the campus. The ITG Help Desk is the centralized hub for all computing requests.

The Learning Commons

The Learning Commons provides an inclusive, learner-centered environment fostering discovery, innovation, student achievement, and well-being. We recognize our physical location to be on ancestral land in Hawaiʻi, at Puʻuloa and Waiʻanae. Therefore, we acknowledge our responsibility to uplift and center the cultural traditions and scholarly contributions of Kanaka Maoli, past and present, to enrich the education and vitality of current and future generations of students.

The Learning Commons Building is located at the center of the campus. It houses the Library, Tutoring (Learning Resource Center and Writing Center), Disability Services, Help Desk, Test Center, Educational Media Center, Innovation Center for Teaching and Learning, and Academic Services Dean’s Office.

If you have any questions about our services or suggestions on how we may improve our services, please do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Academic Services.
