Associate in Science Degree in Nursing
Through a partnership with Kapiolani CC, the Associate in Science degree in Nursing (ADN) program is offered on our campus.
The ADN program is for individuals with no previous nursing education and who are interested in becoming a registered nurse. The program can be completed within four semesters and one summer term, after program prerequisites are completed.
The ADN program offers a career ladder model, providing you an opportunity to acquire skills to become a nurse aide as well as obtain training and licensure to become a practical nurse and a registered nurse.
After completing the first semester within the ADN program, you’ll acquire skills to become a nurse aide. After the first year and completing the pediatric nursing course within the ADN program, you will be eligible to take the National Council of Licensure Examination for practical nurses examination to become a licensed practical nurse. ADN graduates are prepared for the licensure exam for registered nurses required for entry-level registered nurses. The AS degree in Nursing requires satisfactory completion of 72 credits

Important qualities of a nurse include enjoy working with and caring for people as well as being personable, reassuring, patient, compassionate, honest and reliable. Other qualities include being able to accept, give and use constructive feedback; having good manual dexterity and coordination; being able to act quickly and effectively in emergencies; being able to speak and write well; being able to work independently and within a team; and being able to deal with a variety of emotional expressions.
In order to prepare for a nursing career and program, you will need to develop a strong background in math, science and English; acquire paid work experience with direct patient care within a hospital, nursing home, clinic or other health care setting; develop good communication, computer, logical thinking and time management skills; take health-related courses; and complete prerequisite courses.
The Kapiolani CC ADN Program is approved by the Hawai i State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
